Sacred Harp singers are gearing up once again for the fourth annual Holt Collier Mississippi Bear Hunt Memorial Singing.
The event, set for Saturday and May 30 at the Old Court House Museum, is in its fourth year with the Holt Collier designation, but has been going on a lot longer.
“We have been doing this for about five or six years,” said Sandra Melsheimer, singer and event co-chairman. “It was named for Holt Collier, the guide for Teddy Roosevelt” who lead the president during a bear hunt in the Mississippi Delta. The term “teddy bear” originated from the hunt.
