CHICAGO — Marie Bailey Smith died Friday, May 21, 2010, at her home in Chicago. She was 95.
Mrs. Smith was born in Copiah County to Henry Bailey and Mary Alice Scott Bailey. She attended school in Red Lick and was a former member of Mount Olive M.B. Church.
In 1974, she moved to Chicago, where she was a member of Greater Divine Love M.B. Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Deacon Rayfield Smith Sr.; two sons, Rayfield Smith Jr. and Lawrence Woodrow Smith; and 19 siblings.
Survivors include four daughters, Barbara Aikerson of Vicksburg and Mary Alice Crawley, Josie Neal and Ruby Smith, all of Chicago; two sons, James Smith and Joseph Smith, both of Vicksburg; two sisters, Tommie Slaughter of Jackson and Etta Washington of Red Lick; a stepdaughter, Rosie Mae Pittman of Greenville; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at East Mount Olive M.B. Church in Red Lick with the Rev. Tracy Collins officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery directed by Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will be at the church Friday from 10 a.m. until the service.
