Pitcher perfect St. Aloysius one win from state championship

PEARL — Once again, Stephen Evans made Trustmark Park his personal playground.
The St. Aloysius ace struck out 10 batters, retired 17 of the last 18 he faced, and finished with a three-hit shutout as he pitched the Flashes to a 6-0 win over Myrtle in Game 1 of the Class 1A championship series Tuesday afternoon.
In two career starts at Trustmark Park, Evans has thrown two shutouts. He fired a six-hitter against West Union in Game 1 of last year’s finals.
“I kind of got used to pitching here. We’re just doing what we need to do on the scouting report,” Evans said. “I’m just getting ahead of everybody and throwing every pitch for strikes.“
