Betty Waring Aden

Betty Waring Aden died Thursday, May 27, 2010, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital in Houston, Texas. She was 83.

Born in Vicksburg, she was the daughter of the late Daniel Pierson Waring Sr. and Katherine Dornbusch Waring and the widow of William Bernard “Bunny” Aden Sr. Mrs. Aden was a graduate of Carr Central High School and attended the University of Mississippi, where she was a member of Chi Omega sorority.

She was an enthusiastic and passionate golfer, always motivating others to play to the best of their ability. Mrs. Aden was the mentor of numerous golfers from the age of 15 to 70-plus. She will long be remembered for her three Holes in One and other golfing achievements.

Mrs. Aden was an affectionate and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt. She was a Vicksburg Ladies Golf Association Champion, a Warren County Golf Champion, a member of the Mississippi Women’s Golf Association and the Southern Women’s Golf Association.

Mrs. Aden was a member of The Church of the Holy Trinity, Episcopal.

She is survived by three daughters, Allison Ameen and her husband, George, of Vicksburg, Kathy O’Neill and her husband, Brien, of Port Ludlow, Wash., and Elise A. Smith and her husband, Glenn, of Brandon; one son, William B. Aden Jr. and his wife, Lynn, of Vicksburg; six grandchildren, Amanda Wong, Rachael Clark, Christopher Neill, Sarah Neill, Eric Smith and Candice Landers; five great-grandchildren, Aden Clark, Kathryn Wong, Allie Wong, Ella Neill and Hunter Landers; three sisters, Katherine “Sis” Silver of Greenwood, Mary Frances Denton of Jackson and Nancy Redmond and her husband, Tom, of Tampa, Fla.; three brothers, D.P. Waring Jr. and his wife, Lee, and Jimmy Waring and his wife, Ida, all of Vicksburg, and Albert Waring and his wife, Laura, of Alexandria, La.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a brother, Bobby Waring.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at The Church of the Holy Trinity, Episcopal. Visitation will be at Riles Funeral Home from 5 until 7 tonight and at the church from 10 a.m. Wednesday until the service.
