30 miles, 30 cents

I purchased gasoline at the Kroger in Clinton, 30 miles away, for $2.36 using the Kroger card discount. I noticed the same day in Vicksburg that the best price was $2.69.
What in the world can cause the price to be 30 cents more between here and Clinton? Could it be something to do with Kangaroo controlling most of the service stations in Vicksburg?
