No plan, lots of chaos

Congratulations to all students who graduated from Vicksburg High School. You have accomplished a major milestone in your lives. Congratulations to parents, teachers and all who shared in helping you achieve this lofty goal. Shame on the administration for the inadequate facilities provided.

For those who managed to push and shove their way into the stadium and were able to watch a child graduate, I offer my congratulations. For those family members who could not get in, I sympathize with you. Shame on whoever should have made arrangements with the Vicksburg Police Department to provide traffic control and a designated parking area for persons with disabilities. Out-of-town visitors simply could not believe the chaos and disorganization.

Shame on the people who yelled and screamed as their children’s names were announced. These actions made sure the next child’s name was not heard by his or her family. Shame on the lack of respect for what should have been a dignified time, an honored event for those who still consider manners and decent behavior a good thing.

Why is it that the Vicksburg Convention Center or Vicksburg Auditorium cannot be used for graduations for both public high schools in lieu of football fields? After all, a person would think with each high school graduating fewer than 200 students, someone could come up with a better plan.
