A year to the day after the shooting death of Anguilla resident Roosevelt Montgomery outside a nightclub, the trial of his accused killer was scheduled to begin today at the Sharkey County Courthouse in Rolling Fork.

Andrea Thomas, 25, 16 Wildwood St., is accused of shooting Montgomery outside the Club 14.

Montgomery, who was 28 and lived at 2928 Louise Road, died of a gunshot wound to the chest, Sharkey County Coroner Angelia Eason said.

Thomas also faces charges of aggravated assault in the wounding of Shawn Montgomery, age and address unknown, brother of the deceased, who was critically injured by gunshots, and Kendrick Johnson, 27, of Glen Allan, who was shot in the foot.

Authorities believe the men argued after leaving the club in the early morning hours, and shots were fired in the parking lot.

About 250 Sharkey County residents were summoned for jury duty, said District Attorney Ricky Smith, whose district includes Sharkey, Warren and Issaquena counties.

Circuit Judge M. James Chaney will preside. Thomas is defended by Vicksburg attorney Michael Winfield.
