Warren County Board of Supervisors agenda items

Meeting Monday, the board of supervisors:

• Extended an agreement with the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks to complete a new restroom at Messina Landing at Eagle Lake by Dec. 31. The previous deadline was June 30. State funds to pay 75 percent of the $102,000 cost were cut this year, and the project now hinges on funding in next year’s state budget.

• Approved the hiring of Samuel Barnes as operations officer in the Emergency Management Agency.

• Approved $5,325 in legal invoices submitted by board attorney Randy Sherard.

• Approved $27,942.63 in engineering invoices submitted by John McKee.

• Authorized advertising two public hearings. One will involve the Cherry and Adams street bridge replacement projects, both funded by Community Development Block Grants. It is set at the close of supervisors’ next formal board meeting, at 9 a.m., June 21. Another will provide information on the 2010 HOME program to assist first-time homebuyers, a session set for 10 a.m., June 28.

• Approved Tibbs Lane as the new name for East County Lane, a previously undedicated dead-end street across U.S. 61 North from County Lane.

• Announced no action taken following a brief closed session with Tax Assessor Richard Holland and Deputy Tax Assessor Jim Agent on a pending appeal of Ameristar Casino’s property tax valuation. The case is pending in circuit court.
