Sammie Brown Jr. died Friday, June 18, 2010, at his Vicksburg home. He was 48.

Mr. Brown was born in Tutwiler, Miss. He was a member of New Mount Pilgrim M.B. Church, a former member of the Minister Alliance and pastor of St. Luke Freewill Baptist Church and Christian Home M.B. Church No. 1, both in Vicksburg, and Pleasant Grove M.B. Church in Edwards.

Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his grandmother, Lucy Ann Brown.

Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Ruby Loving Brown of Vicksburg; his father, Sammie Kennedy of Jonestown, Miss,; his mother and stepfather, Rose and Harry Foster, both of Vicksburg; two sons Lamond Ford of Tennessee Colony, Texas, and Jayvin Davenport of Vicksburg; four daughters, Ruby Gaines of Texas, Katrina Brooks of Winnsboro, La., and Tasha Brown and Joeniqua Simpson, both of Vicksburg; two brothers, Jesse Brown of Edwards and James Earl Taylor of Tutwiler; one sister, Rose Matory of Jackson; three grandchildren, and nieces, nephews and cousins.
