A Vicksburg man is being sought in the pistol-whipping of another man early Friday morning, and police were asking for help in finding the suspect.

Cedric Gleese, 34, whose last known address was 605 Holly Ridge Drive, is accused of hitting Chauncy Rankin, 20, in the face and head several times with a gun at Franklin and Military streets, Vicksburg police Lt. Bobby Stewart said.

Rankin, 2991 N. Washington St., said Gleese fired the weapon after hitting him, Stewart said.

The victim was not taken to a hospital but was treated at a dentist’s office hours later, Stewart said.

Gleese left the scene in a vehicle that has been recovered by authorities, Stewart said, adding “he is considered armed and dangerous.” The car was found at the Holly Ridge address.

Gleese faces charges of aggravated assault and possession of a weapon by felon, Stewart said.

Police asked that anyone with information about Gleese contact the department at 601-636-2511 or call 911.
