Firefighters with the Vicksburg Fire Department fight a blaze at 825 W. Pine St. Monday afternoon. A tin roof on the home trapped many of the flames and much of the heat in the house. Fire Investigator Leslie Decareaux said this morning that the accidental fire was blamed on a window air conditioner that overheated and started the blaze. She said the blaze reported at 4:36 destroyed the rental house owned by Malcolm Harris and rented by Rosezena Jones, who lived alone. No one was injured during the fire, Chief Charles Atkins said at the scene. Decareaux reminded residents to have air conditioners serviced annually to prevent fires.
