James announces run for state appeals court

Ceola James has announced her candidacy for Mississippi Court of Appeals Judge for District 2, Place 1.
James, an attorney and former chancellor and justice court judge, is opposed by incumbent judge Tyree Irving.
A lifelong Vicksburg resident, James was 9th District Chancery Court judge in its Greenville seat from January 1999 to December 2002. She was appointed interim Southern District Justice Court judge in Warren County in 1997 and special master judge in Warren County Chancery Court from 1992 to 1994.
Other appointments include Special Chancery Court judgeships in Scott and Rankin counties.
In 2003, she served a special appointment as city judge in Port Gibson.
James is a graduate of the law school at Mississippi College.
She studied French at the University of Montreal.
She is a member of the Mississippi Bar Association; Alpha Kappa Alpha, a sorority; and Phi Delta Psi, a national honorary French society. She serves on the board of trustees of Mount Heroden Baptist Church.
Counties in District 2 are: Attala, Bolivar, Carroll, Claiborne, Coahoma, Grenada, Hinds, Holmes, Humphries, Issaquena, Jefferson, Leake, Leflore, Madison, Montgomery, Panola, Quitman, Sharkey, Sunflower, Tallahachie, Tunica, Warren, Washington and Yazoo.
