Services for Charlie Grissom will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Greater Mount Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. Gregory Butler officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 until 6 today at Williams Funeral Service.
Mr. Grissom died Thursday, July 1, 2010, at his home. He was 85.
Mr. Grissom was a faithful and the oldest member of King Solomon Baptist Church, where he was an usher. He was employed with Runyon Construction for 34 years, City of Vicksburg and Pemberton Square mall for 10 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alexander Grissom Sr. and Josephine S. Grissom; two sisters, Viola Grissom and Beola Fisher; a brother, Louis Grissom; a son, Darrin Grissom; and a grandson, Dwain L. Jackson.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Willie Mae Jackson Grissom; nine sons, Adrian Jason Grissom, Charles Grissom, Zane Grissom, Gregory Mason, Derrick Jackson, George Ford and Ronnie Ford, all of Vicksburg, Michael Hunt of Lithonia, Ga. and James Grissom of Jackson; 12 daughters, Asia Grissom, Marsha Jenkins, Elinor Jackson, Connie Curtis, Sylvia Jackson, Josie Cosey, Lecie Thomas, Kimberly Mason Knight, Twylas James and Andrea Mason Tate, all of Vicksburg, Lowrain Grissom of Austin, Texas, and Debra Ward of Jackson; a brother, Alexander Grissom Jr. of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and a sister, Emma Williams of Vicksburg; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends including the Grissom, Bingham, Reed and Smith families of Vicksburg.
