Durn to wed Mr. Hill in Greenville

The engagement of Lara Porter Durn of Cleveland to Joel Harris “Tri” Hill Jr. of Rolling Fork is announced today. Vows will be exchanged at 6 p.m. Aug. 7, 2010, at First United Methodist Church in Greenville. A reception will follow at the Greenville Golf and Country Club.

Ms. Durn is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Clifton Porter of Fitler. She is the granddaughter of Rosa Braxton of Valley Park and the late Lee Braxton and the late Mr. and Mrs. Grover Porter.

Mr. Hill is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joel Harris Hill Jr. of Greenville. He is the grandson of Ferne Little Hutcherson of Indianola and the late Opie Read Little Jr. and the late Mr. and Mrs. Joel Harris Hill Sr.

The bride-elect is a 1995 graduate of Sharkey Issaquena Academy.

She received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in computer information systems and office administration and a Bachelor of Science degree in nutrition and dietetics, both from Delta State University.

She served as president of Kappa Omicron Nu honor society.

Ms. Durn is a registered dietitian with the Mississippi State Department of Health in Bolivar County.

The prospective groom is a 1991 graduate of Washington School and attended the University of Mississippi, where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity.

He received a Bachelor of Science degree in education from Delta State University and is a graduate of Rhema Bible Training School in Broken Arrow, Okla.

He served as president of Fellowship of Christian Students.

Mr. Hill is director of the Word Alive Bible School on the island of Bohol in the Philippines. He serves as senior pastor of Son Flower Church in Rolling Fork.
