State vote on Ceres house is Friday

With no new inquiries about buying or moving the Ceres Plantation House, the Warren County Port Commission awaits a decision by state preservationists Friday on whether to designate the structure worth protecting.
Commissioners, who manage county-owned industrial properties, had set the bar high for any firm wanting to purchase and move the house — at least five years of experience in moving residential structures and specific plans and time frames for taking the house off the county’s hands were part of a public notice.
The dilapidated structure, parts of which are said to date to the 1830s, was acquired by the county with the grant-funded purchase in 1986 of 1,290 acres of what had been farmland at Flowers.
