Ruth Sheppeard Harris died Thursday, July 22, 2010, at River Region Medical Center. She was 91.

Mrs. Harris was a native of Webster County and had been a Vicksburg resident since 1939. She was a retired nurse.

She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and attended Solid Rock United Pentecostal Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Alfred S. Harris; her parents, Jewel Jackson and Georgia Lee Mobley Sheppeard; a brother, Mobley Sheppeard; and two sisters, Jewel S. Tate and Mildred S. Whitten.

Survivors include one daughter, Nancy H. (Elma) Malone of Vicksburg; four sons, Stanley (Leslie) Harris, Dennis (Donna) Harris and Charles (Annette) Harris, all of Vicksburg, and Donald (Gwen) Harris of Jackson; a sister, Sarah Ruth Cooper of Jackson; and 17 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Billy Talbert officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 2 until 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Derrick Malone, Darren Malone, Duane Malone, Landon Fields, Kenneth Harris, Keith Harris, Steven Harris and Mark Harris.

Honorary pallbearers will be the staffs of Promise Hospital and Providence Hospice.
