Venom stays alive at World Series

Brooks Boolos went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, and John Austin Burris had two hits as the Vicksburg Venom stayed alive in the USSSA Global Sports World Series with a 5-0 victory over Maumelle, Ark. on Saturday.

The Venom eliminated Maumelle in the losers’ bracket game and stayed alive to play today in the White Division championship game against either the Oklahoma Cubs or Cherokee Baseball Academy at 12:30 p.m. in Cordova, Tenn.

Taft Nesmith pitched five shutout innings against Maumelle, allowing two hits and two walks.

The Venom fell into the elimination game with an 8-5 loss to Cherokee, Missouri’s 12-year-olds’ state champions, earlier Saturday.
