A former student returned to public schools here Wednesday to encourage faculty and staff as they begin a new year today.

“Being an educator is a noble profession,” said Dr. Dan Jones, graduate of Warren Central who is now chancellor of the University of Mississippi. He was keynote speaker for the Vicksburg Warren School District’s 23rd annual convocation. “What you are doing is important and we are proud of you,” he said.

The gathering also honored district and school award recipients who were called to the Vicksburg Auditorium stage for recognition.
