Culkin Volunteer Fire Department Chief Jerry Briggs finishes extinguishing a fire after a wreck on Mississippi 27 Thursday afternoon. Mississippi State Highway Safety Patrol Cpl. Wayne Smith said Conner Brown, 18, 4346 Pine Lake Drive, Terry, was northbound in the rain when his 2005 Nissan Pathfinder hydroplaned and hit the guardrail of the bridge over the Big Black River and bounced into oncoming traffic before hitting a 2004 Ford F-150 driven by James Rushing, 59, 705 Lake Washington Court, Slidell, La. Brown was treated and released from River Region Medical Center, spokesman Allen Karel said, and the hospital had no record of Rushing’s being treated. Traffic in both directions on the two-lane highway was blocked for nearly two hours while the wreck was cleared, Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace said.
