Four recognized for efforts at 2010 banquet

Four people and places have been recognized by the Warren County Soil and Water Conservation District for contributions to conservation.
Awards were handed out Thursday night during the group’s annual banquet.
Robert Short was presented the Special Services Award. Short is an organic farmer who raises chickens, turkeys and horses. He also grows squash, cucumbers, okra and other crops.
Ferris Farms, one of the largest farms in Warren County with more than 6,000 acres, received the Outstanding Grazing and Pastureland Award. The farm was recognized for its pasture management, particularly for applying erosion control structures and installing conservation buffers along streams and other bodies of water.
