Neighbors fight back across Vicksburg

Published 12:05 pm Monday, August 9, 2010

Residents of older areas across Vicksburg are taking a stand against crime, meeting with residents, contacting police and even patrolling for themselves.

In Fostoria, an area bounded by Bowmar Avenue and Cherry, Drummond and Harris streets, one resident rides a scooter through the neighborhood several times daily to look for suspicious goings-on.

“I get up in the morning and I take the scooter at least three times a day,” said Roger Wilson, a five-year Fostoria resident. “I take off and go down Finney, Cherry Street down to Drummond. There’s no set way of doing it and no set time.” So far, he said, he’s reported one suspicious person running from a home, but he did not know if an arrest was made.
