Lady Vikes, VHS set for tournament

It’ll be a busy day on the diamond today as six teams descend on Lucy Young Field for the annual Lady Vikes Invitational slow-pitch tournament.

Host Warren Central will join crosstown rival Vicksburg, Forest Hill, Greenville-Weston, Yazoo City and Hazlehurst for the pool play tournament that begins at 8:30 a.m.

Each team will play two pool play games, with the champions squaring off for the tournament title at 4 p.m.

Warren Central and Vicksburg are in opposite pools and would not meet until the championship game. The archrivals play for the first time in the regular season on Sept. 7 at Halls Ferry Park, then again on Sept. 16 at Warren Central.

WC opens today’s tournament by playing Yazoo City in the first game of the day, then will take on Forest Hill at 1:30 p.m.

Vicksburg, which lost to Cathedral in the finals last season, will play Hazlehurst at 9:45 a.m. and Greenville-Weston at 2:45 p.m.
