James Lieutenant Allen Sr. died Saturday, Aug. 28, 2010, at Covenant Health & Rehab of Vicksburg. He was 81.

Mr. Allen was a veteran of the Army and served in World War II. He was a member of St. James M.B. Church. He retired as a truck driver, having worked for Mayflower Moving Co., Mercury Marine and North American Freight Lines. He was past manager for the Vicksburg Raiders softball team and Total Experience band.

Mr. Allen was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Gertrude Allen; a sister, Pearl Allen; and a daughter, Laverne Allen.

He is survived by three sons, James Allen Jr. of Dallas, Texas, and Ernest Allen and Kevin Powell, both of Vicksburg; two daughters, Rita Ivy of Chicago and Shirley Gattison of Dallas; 17 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives, including Willie Mae Hart of Vicksburg.
