Maie Bird Thurman, 85, died Monday, Sept. 6, 2010, at River Region Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010, at Frank J. Fisher Funeral Home. Burial will be at Edwards Cemetery. Visitation will be held from noon until the hour of service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Thurman was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She graduated from Culkin Academy in 1942. She then worked in sales at The Valley, as a bookkeeper at LeTourneau and in sales for Singer. She enjoyed many activities with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Maie Bird was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church and taught the 4-year-old Sunday school class for a number of years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Luther R. and Lyla Maie Anderson Birdsong.

Survivors include her husband, James L. Thurman Sr. of Vicksburg; a daughter, Lyla (Keith) Stennett of Vicksburg; a son, James (Brenda) L. Thurman Jr. of Vicksburg; grandchildren, Wesley Stennett, Michael Stennett, Jena (Michael) Thurman Fielder and James (Stacy) L. Thurman III; great-grandchildren, Ashton Stennett, Anna Kay Fielder, Caleb Fielder and Clayton Thurman; brother, Oscar (Clair) Birdsong; sister, Floyce (Jimmie) Birdsong Brown; and four nieces and four nephews.

Pallbearers will be Wesley Stennett, Michael Stennett, James L. Thurman III, Michael Fielder, K.B. Brown Jr., Mike Brown, David Birdsong and Reed Birdsong.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Woodlawn Baptist Church Ladies Sunday school class.

Memorials may be made to Woodlawn Baptist Church Building Fund.
