The Mississippi Supreme Court has upheld the homicide conviction of a Vicksburg man sentenced to life in prison without parole in a Vicksburg slaying.

Jason Davis was sentenced in 2008 in Warren County.

Davis was charged with murder in the 2007 shooting death of 21-year-old Thaddeus Jeffery in a parking lot at the Exxon store at Clay Street and Mission 66.

Davis, who surrendered to the Vicksburg Police Department 12 hours after the shooting, had claimed he acted in self-defense.

Prosecutors say the men were involved in an ongoing feud. They say Jeffery was shot twice in the back.

During the trial in Warren County in the court of former Circuit Judge Frank Vollor, the defense said the victim had a gun at the time of the shooting, though no gun was found at the scene.
