Eilene H. Smith

Eilene H. Smith died Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2010, at River Region Medical Center. She was 76.

Mrs. Smith was born in Nebraska and had lived in Vicksburg for the past 45 years. She served in the Women’s Army Corps. After her service, she worked at and retired from Waterways Experiment Station, where she was a purchasing agent. After retirement, she worked at The Vicksburg Post for 13 years. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where she was part of the Deborah Circle.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Albert Smith Sr.; her parents, Vernett and Idabelle Tibbs; and two sons, William Albert Smith Jr. and David Smith.

Survivors include four daughters, Vickie Newman and Dixie Rees, both of Vicksburg, Billie Perry of Edwards and Laurie Massie of Jacksonville, N.C.; one brother, Keith Tibbs of Little Rock, Ark.; three sisters, Dorothy Tibbs of Freemont, Neb., Carol McBeath of Haysville, Kan., and LaRue Luschei of Woodstock, Ill.; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Tim Brown and Lt. Cmdr. Marc Massie, U.S. Navy chaplain, officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon until the service Monday at the church.

Pallbearers will be Lee Newman, Major Perry, Claude Rees III, Matthew Perry, Thomas Buddy Allen, Stephen Newman, Dwain Butler and Pete Warnock.

Honorary pallbearers will be Drs. Robert Ford, Lee Giffin and Susan Chiarito, the staff of Shady Lawn Nursing Home, the Rev. Kuhrman Cox, Steven Shy, Claude E. Rees, Jr. and Bryan Barrentine.
