JACKSON (AP) — Phillip Wellman, who won a league championship his four years as manager of the Double-A Mississippi Braves, will not be back with the Atlanta organization in 2011.
Kurt Kemp, the Atlanta Braves’ director of player development, tells The Clarion-Ledger that Wellman’s contract was not renewed. He declined to make any other comment.
Wellman was named Southern League manager of the year in 2008, when the Mississippi Braves won the pennant. They also made the playoffs in 2007. The team missed the postseason this year, going 63-74 overall.
