With cooler weather approaching, charitable organizations are seeking items to help the needy and the elderly make it through the winter.
The Vicksburg Area chapter of the American Red Cross will kick off its fourth annual blanket drive Oct. 8, and the effort will run through Oct. 30.
Blankets will be given to fire victims and the elderly in local retirement homes.
Each year, said Red Cross emergency services director Janice Sawyer, the effort grows bigger. This year the agency will team with Woodmen of the World, River 101 and the Vicksburg Fire Department.
