The Vicksburg Warren athletic department was fined $250, and hit with several other penalties, because of Vicksburg High’s use of an ineligible player in four games this season.

The penalties handed down Tuesday include a reprimand from the MHSAA for VHS head coach Alonzo Stevens, probation for Vicksburg’s football team for the rest of the season, and the forfeiture of all games the player participated in.

Since Vicksburg lost all four of the games the player participated in, its win-loss record will not be affected by the forfeitures. The losses included the Red Carpet Bowl against Gulfport, a home game against Richwood, La., and road games at Tylertown and Lawrence County.

The fine was originally $1,000, but Vicksburg Warren athletic director Lum Wright Jr. said it was reduced on appeal. Wright said the smaller fine was paid Wednesday.

“They reduced it from $1,000 to $250 because we’ve been accreditable in the past,” Wright said.

Stevens self-reported the violation when it was discovered last week.
