On consignment upscale trend takes over

Designer and vintage clothing, fine furniture, hand-smocked toddler dresses, custom-made lamps — the Vicksburg stores stocking these items on consignment aren’t your mama’s thrift shops.
Quality, artistic value and originality have become part of Vicksburg’s consignment landscape with recent store openings. The shift pleases sellers as well as buyers, shop owners say.
“The consignment stores have changed over the years,” said Becky Beard, owner of downtown’s Frankly Scarlett clothing consignment. “They’re more like boutiques.”
“Our motto is, if you can give it for a gift, we will sell it for you,” said Judy Wooley, one of the owners of The Cricket Box, which bills itself as “a specialty gift and fine consignment shop.” Wooley and co-owners Debbie Tate and Nell Cummins chose the word “fine” intentionally.
