James Coffee

PORT GIBSON — James Coffee died Saturday, Oct. 2, 2010, at River Region Medical Center. He was 90.

Mr. Coffee was of the Baptist faith. He retired from the Army with 27 years of service and the Detroit Police Department.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Coffee and Mary Miller Coffee; his wife, Loraine Coffee; two daughters, Mary Ann Motley and Levette Newson; a brother, Carter Coffee; and two sisters, Rosie Coffee Bell and Ruth Coffee Wellon.

Survivors include a son, James Coffee Jr. of Detroit; three daughters, Brenda Coffee of Harper Woods, Mich., Allicine Hicks of Stone Mountain, Ga., and Yolanda Gaylord of Detroit; three brothers, Leonard Coffee of Vicksburg, Melvin Coffee of Leland and Charles Coffee; 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends, including Charlie Bell of Vicksburg.
