Loulan Joseph Pitre Sr.

CUT OFF, La. — Loulan Joseph Pitre Sr. died Sunday, Oct. 17, 2010, at his son’s home. He was 89.

A lifelong resident of Cut Off, Mr. Pitre was the son of David C. and Evilide “Bee” Bruce Pitre. He worked on the family oyster lugger and was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Marine Corps aboard the Battleship Idaho. He worked as a rig builder and commercial fisherman and was an oil field boat captain.

Mr. Pitre served as commander of the Gros-Guidry VFW post and leader of Boy Scout Troop 390. He was a storyteller and movie actor, having played the sheriff in “Belizaire the Cajun.”

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Emelia Chabert Pitre; four sons, Dr. Holland Pitre, Dr. Wayne Pitre, Glen Pitre and Loulan Pitre Jr.; a sister, Vesta Pitre Suer; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services were at noon today at Sacred Heart Church in Cut Off. Burial followed under the direction of Falgout Funeral Home of Raceland, La.
