A fire at a house at 810 Howard St. damaged the home but caused no injuries Friday night.

Assistant Fire Chief Craig Danczyk of the Vicksburg Fire Department said the fire started inside the house, and an unknown number of residents home at the time escaped to the back yard.

“Fire damage was contained to one room, and there was a lot of smoke in and outside the home, but the fire was extinguished rapidly,” Danczyk said.

Fire, rescue and ambulance crews from both Central and Cherry Street stations responded around 6:45 p.m., with the fire contained by 7:05 p.m., he said. The cause was under investigation.

“It could have been a lot worse,” Danczyk said. “We never like to see people lose property but fortunately the damage was minimal and people are not displaced from their home.”
