James Payton Sr.

PORT GIBSON — James Payton died Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010, at Patients Choice Hospital in Port Gibson. He was 64.
Mr. Payton was retired from Entergy and was a member of Prince Hall Lodge No. 21 where he served as worshipful master. He was a member of First Baptist Church where he was a deacon, Sunday school teacher and superintendent.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frazier and Rosie Payton; a brother, Herbert Payton; and a sister, Corrine Buxton.
Survivors include his wife, Glourstine Payton of Port Gibson; two daughters, Jacqueline Payton-Brown and Rhosonda Payton, both of Port Gibson; two sons, James S. Payton Jr. and Daniel Payton, both of Jackson; 11 sisters, Cedonia Frazier of St. Louis; Julia M. Jessie, Priscilla Fantroy and LaKeshia Goodman, all of Ocean Springs, Valice Gross of Madison, Wisc., Rosenna Catching of Biloxi, Gloria Payton of Dallas, Dorothy Harris and Clarissa Perkins, both of Gautier, Miss., Helen Pittman of Magee, Miss., and Jamikka Nelson of Jacksonville, Fla.; four brothers, Franklin Payton, James L. Payton and Terrance Payton, all of Ocean Springs, and Ollie Payton of Vancleave, Miss; eight grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and other friends and relatives.
Services will be at 1 p.m. today at First Baptist Church in Port Gibson with the Reb. James Dorsey officiating. Burial will be Saturday at Goodhope M.B. Church Cemetery in Vancleave with Thompson Funeral Home of Port Gibson in charge.
Visitation will be from noon until 2 p.m. Saturday at the church.
