Jimmie Methvin McGuffie

Jimmie Methvin McGuffie was born in Cleveland, Miss., on June 25, 1938, and died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2010. She had made her home in Vicksburg off and on for over 50 years.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John; her parents, Irma and Boots Methvin; and her sister, Norma Brister.
She is survived by her four daughters, Catherine McGuffie and Kimberly Welch (Vernon), both of Asheville, N.C., Kellye Carlisle (Mike) of Vicksburg and Christina McGuffie of Clarksdale; her grandchildren, Stephanie Haik, John and Meghan Welch, Lauren, Connor, Jacob and Dylan Carlisle and Hannah Nevels; her sister, Mary Keup (David); niece, Tracy Helgason of Houston, Texas; nephew, Michael Helgason of Memphis; brothers, Gene Methvin (Audrey), Tommy Methvin of Jackson and Lonnie Methvin (Lynn) of Longview, Texas; and her brother-in-law, Bennie Brister of Wesson.
Jimmie was a unique woman with many talents. She attended the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing. She was a full-time wife and mother, an artist, art gallery owner and a member of the Vicksburg Art Association. She enjoyed reading, writing and gardening. Her passions in life were her art and ballroom dancing. She participated in many exhibitions with the Magnolia Ballroom Dancers Association.
A celebration of life is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 6, 2010, at her home located at 3012 Drummond St., Vicksburg, from 3 until 5.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Vicksburg Art Association or the American Heart Association.
A small, intimate graveside service will be held Saturday, Nov. 6, 2010, at 1 p.m. at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Glenwood Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
