Joe Ann Blades Green

Joe Ann Blades Green passed away at her home on Thursday afternoon, Nov. 4, 2010, at the age of 72 after a long battle with cancer.
She was born in Vicksburg on Jan. 5, 1938. She attended Vicksburg public schools and graduated from Carr Central High School in 1955. She was an active member of Crawford Street United Methodist Church, serving as a member of the administrative board, council on ministries, staff parish relations committee, building and grounds committee, United Methodist Women, worship chairman and Sunday school teacher. She was a past member of the Vicksburg Council of Garden Clubs and a charter member of the Marion Park Garden Club. She was an avid gardener, and sewing was her hobby. She was a volunteer at the Warren County Children’s Shelter. After graduation she was employed as a secretary at First National Bank and became secretary to the bank president. She was a retired secretary in the former Coastal Engineering Research Center at the then-Waterways Experiment Station.
She was preceded in death by her parents Roy E. Blades Sr. and Mary Koerper Blades; and a sister, Marilyn Blades Dornbusch.
She is survived by her husband, Hugh L. Green; three sons, Brian H. Green and wife Sally of Vicksburg, Stuart B. Green and wife Nan of Corinth and Adam L. Green and wife Gina of Williamsburg, Va. She is also survived by a sister, Sharon Anglin of Vicksburg; a brother, Roy E. Blades Jr. of Ennis, Texas., and six grandchildren, Wesley, Mary Evans (Meg), Sydney, Austin, Dillon and Michael. She and her husband would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Saturday.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 8, at Crawford Street United Methodist Church with the Rev. Cary Stockett, pastor, officiating. Visitation will be from 2 until 4 today at Riles Funeral Home and Monday from noon until the time of the service at Crawford Street United Methodist Church.
Pallbearers will be Burton Boyd, Wade West, Bobby Fleming, John Black, Glenn Pickering, Tel Duncan, Jimmy Turner, Malcolm Dove, Richard Cowart Sr. and Leo Boolos.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Friendship Sunday School Class of Crawford Street United Methodist Church.
The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made in her memory to Crawford Street United Methodist Church, 900 Crawford St.; River City Rescue Mission, 3705 S. Washington St.; or the charity of their choice.
