Buying cheaper patrol boat should not be an option

Published 12:04 am Sunday, November 14, 2010

I’m writing in response to the patrol boat requested by Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace. Safety is the primary concern for the personnel and the public whom they are assisting.

Put yourself in the deputies’ and sheriff’s shoes. An accident call in the middle of a stormy night from the Mississippi River asking for assistance. Would you risk your life in an enclosed boat designed for extreme, life-threatening conditions with dual engines to help someone? Or would you rather use an open 24-foot boat with a single engine?

If you chose the second option, please send the sheriff’s department your name and phone number so you can be contacted to go out when the call comes in for help.
