Support museum

I would like to clear up a few points in Danny Barrett’s story, “MV, old depot on fast track to finish.” The Transportation Museum does not need $250,000 to finish the third floor. We need the money to prepare exhibits and displays, then if any money remains we will start on the third floor.

We now have the additional expense of obtaining another $52,900 grant plus a $13,000 match to move and place the railcars. That money was taken by the city landscaping department to build a “covered walkway in front of the murals and end at our fence”

As a 501(c) 3 nonprofit private museum, we cannot have the pleasure of federal funding of $14 million, nor will the Mississippi delegation sponsor a bill for us to add 12,000 acres, or even 1,100 acres.

I hope that the people and businesses of Vicksburg will get behind this project and really push. The present and former mayors and Board of Alderman are doing all they can, and Warren County Supervisors have also supported this project.

This museum, because of the interest in trains and miniature trains, can become one of the biggest attractions in our city.

Please, help the Vicksburg Transportation Museum become a reality.
