Angels on parade Elementary school turns annual fun into giving

When it came time for South Park Elementary students and teachers to plan a float for Vicksburg’s annual Christmas parade, they looked to the angels for inspiration.

That touch of inspiration led the school to win Most Original in Saturday’s Parade of Lights and six people — all “angels” from the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree Program — to have a Christmas they might not have otherwise had.

“We were brainstorming for an idea,” said lead teacher Nellie Hopkins, one of a group of faculty members and parents who crafted the school’s float. “Now, we could all be someone’s angel.”
