The postseason accolades keep on piling up for St. Aloysius lineman Matt Wooten.
Wooten, who was named the Region 4-1A lineman of the year in November, added an all-state plaque to his trophy case this week. He was picked for the Mississippi Association of Coaches Class 1A All-State team.
Wooten, a 275-pound senior tackle, was a three-year starter for the Flashes on both the offensive and defensive line. He had 31 tackles at defensive tackle, while on offense paving the way for five rushers who gained at least 500 yards apiece.
Wooten wasn’t the only Vicksburg-area player recognized as one of Mississippi’s best. Three Central Hinds players were selected for the All-MAIS team by coaches in the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools.
Linebacker Lee Douglas and kicker Pate Demuth made the first team, while center Austin Sills was on the second team. All three players are seniors.
Douglas had 104 tackles, including 11 sacks and 37 tackles for loss, while helping the Cougars to a 10-2 record this season. He also had three interceptions and four fumble recoveries.
Demuth converted 50 of 51 PAT attempts and 7 of 9 field goal tries, with a long of 47 yards.
Sills was a three-year starter on a veteran team that featured two 1,000-yard rushers.
