Military park scenes are latest card design

Decks of playing cards featuring the Vicksburg National Military Park are available just in time for last-minute Christmas shoppers looking for stocking-stuffers.

The cards are being sold by the Vicksburg Foundation for Historic Preservation, and each depicts a monument or site at the VNMP. Included are images of the Memorial Arch, Illinois Monument and Navy Memorial.

“The park is a big part of what Vicksburg is,” said the foundation’s director, Nancy Bell. “People are very sentimental and nostalgic about these scenes, and the cards give people a good feeling to have or give to someone else.”

Along with the full-color renderings — which were taken from old postcards — is information on each site.

“You can learn something from these,” Bell said. “They are an interpretive tool.”
