Lyons couple honored

Shearwood and Wilma Lyons will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary Thursday. They were married Dec. 23, 1950.
A reception in their honor will be held today at the Waring home along with their five children and their families: Sherwood and Melissa Lyons, Darrell and Vickie Williamson, Joe and Cindy Lyons, Howard and Belynda Waring, and Mike and Kayla Lyons; as well as their 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
The Lyonses are lifelong residents of the Vicksburg community. Wilma graduated from Redwood High School in 1950, received her nursing degree and retired from Mercy Hospital/River Region and private duty nursing with a combined service of over 25 years. Shearwood graduated from Jett High School in 1947, retired as a captain from the Vicksburg Fire Department after 21 years of service and worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Vicksburg District Mat Sinking Unit for a year before retiring with 16 years of service as a security guard from Waterways Experiment Station.
