LAKE PROVIDENCE, La. — Funeral services for Lloyd Waldo Chapman Jr. will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 23, 2010, at the First Baptist Church of Lake Providence with the Rev. Mitch Minson officiating. Interment will be at the Providence Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2 until 8 p.m. at Cox Funeral Home of Lake Providence and Thursday from 10 a.m. until service time at the church.

Lloyd was born April 12, 1943, in Lake Providence and died Saturday, Dec. 18, 2010. He was 67. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lake Providence.

He was active in many roles throughout the city and parish. He was the fire chief of East Carroll Rural Fire Protection District for over 48 years and assistant fire chief of the Town of Lake Providence.

Lloyd was an alderman for the Town of Lake Providence for 16 years, was an EMT for many years and was instrumental, along with the East Carroll Police Jury, in bringing the Jaws of Life rescue equipment to the area. He was the Lake Providence weather observer for the National Weather Service in Jackson, Miss., for over 30 years. He was also a licensed pharmacist for over 40 years and part owner of Chapman’s Drug.

Lloyd was preceded in death by his father, Lloyd Waldo Chapman Sr.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Chapman of Lake Providence; son, Mike Chapman of Jackson; daughter and son-in-law, Mary Francis Bush and Vincent Bush of Moore, Idaho; son, Brian Chapman of Houston, Texas; stepson, Michael Smith of West Monroe, La.; stepdaughter, Beverly Smith of West Monroe, La.; three grandchildren, Jacob, Aaron and Benjamin Bush; mother, Hazel Leggette Chapman of Lake Providence; brother, Eddie Chapman of Lake Providence; sister and brother-in-law, Diane Yocom and Joe Yocom of Ridgeland; half-sister, Joy Anne Barriett of West Monroe; half-sister, Cecile Marzula of West Monroe; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Eric Schroder, Tim Braswell, Michael Petowsky, Roy Ramsey, David Watson, Bodie McDonald, James Bass Jr. and James Bass Sr.

Honorary pallbearers will be the East Carroll Parish firemen, West Carroll Parish firemen, Madison Parish firemen, Town of Lake Providence employees and the East Carroll Parish Sheriff’s Department.
