Newton Meeks died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2010, at Covenant Health Covenant Health and Rehab of Vicksburg. He was 84.

Mr. Meeks was a retired electrician. He was a member of St. Paul M.B. Church and a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Meeks; his parents, Louis and Josephine Meeks; his brothers, Louis Meeks Jr., Oliver Meeks, James Meeks, Edgar Meeks, Theodore Meeks, Raymond Meeks and George Meeks; and his sisters, Olivia Lindsey, Vera Lee and Gladys Hackett.

Survivors include three sisters, Josie B. Orr of Los Angeles and Lois Shields and Dorothy Meeks, both of Vicksburg; and nieces, nephews, cousins and others.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Jefferson Funeral Home with the Rev. Tyrone Dixon officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. in the chapel.
