A Flowood man, formerly a resident of Warren County, was in the Warren County Jail Saturday charged with child abuse, said Sheriff Martin Pace.

Christopher Luna, 28, 716 U.S. 80 East, was arrested in Pearl on a warrant, Pace said.

Luna is accused of injuring a 4-month old baby girl in July 2009. The infant’s injuries were reported to Warren County officials by the Mississippi Department of Human Services after she was treated at University Medical Center, said Pace.

Luna was indicted on the charge by the Warren County Grand Jury in July 2010, the sheriff said. When he did not report after two weeks for a required court appearance, his information was registered with the National Crime Information Center.

Earlier this week, a Rankin County officer provided Warren County deputies with information used to locate Luna, and he was arrested at 3:30 p.m. Friday and later transferred to Warren County.

He was being held without bond pending his arraignment on the grand jury indictment.

Tallulah man jailed

on sexual battery

A Tallulah man has been arrested on a warrant from the Warren County Sheriff’s Department charging him with sexual battery of a child under 14, jail records showed.

Jimmy Knight, 53, 1404 Florida St., was taken into custody Friday in Tallulah, waived extradition and was transferred to the Warren County Jail that same day, said Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace.

Knight was being held without bond pending an initial hearing Monday.

Pace said the sexual assault was reported Tuesday by family members and took place several days prior to it being reported.
