If Warren County builds and staffs a jail the way hired consultants say it should be done, nearly all property taxes in the county will be increased to pay for it, according to the first in-house cost analysis for the project.
The tax on a property valued at $100,000 in the city with homestead exemption would increase from $928.60 to $984.58, County Administrator John Smith told members of the Board of Supervisors Monday. Without homestead exemption, the same property would be taxed $1,926.87, up about $84 from current levels, he said.
