Lloyd “Sleepy” Rousey Sr. died Monday, Jan. 10, 2011, at Promise Hospital of Vicksburg. He was 88.
Sleepy moved to Vicksburg in 1930. He worked at Magnolia Mobile Home Manufacturing for 20 years. After leaving Magnolia he went to work for the Carpenter’s Local No. 1964 and retired from there with 20 years of service. He was an avid fisherman and gardener. Sleepy had a special love for his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis Albert and Louise Henderson Rousey; his wife, Helen Ruth Rousey; two brothers, Thomas A. Rousey and Louis A. Rousey; a sister, Nellie Mae Biggs; and a stepdaughter, Claudia Sutton.
Survivors include his son, Lloyd J. Rousey Jr. (Dona) of Vicksburg; a sister, Florence Claxton of Longview, Texas; two grandsons, John H. Rousey of LaGrange, Texas, and James M. Rousey of Germantown, Ohio; six great-grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Frank J. Fisher Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the service Saturday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be John Rousey, James Rousey, Dusty Gray, Tommy Stokes, Sammy Stokes and Chris Ables.
Honorary pallbearers will be Drs. Paul Pierce IV, Walter Johnston, Carlton Neihaus, Dan Cook, and the nurses and staff of Promise Hospital, Mississippi Home Care and CDS.
Memorials may be made to Lighthouse Baptist Church or your favorite charity.
