Poor free throw shooting in the fourth quarter cost the Lady Vikes a chance to close out its home schedule with a win.

The Lady Vikes (6-13) trailed by 16, 27-11, at the half after making just 4-of-26 shots. Things changed in the second half as WC made over 50 percent (14-of-27) of its shots to rally back and take a lead at 33-32 with 5:28 left after a basket by Michelle Jones.

The Lady Vikes, however, made just two of nine free throws in the final five minutes and that led to the loss. Six of the misses came after WC’s Elayne Robinson tied the game for the last time at 39 with 2:15 to play.

Madison Central (3-15) lost its two top scorers in Rochelle Mason (14 points) and Lindsey Ray (nine points) to fouls down the stretch but Shakinah Smith made five straight free throws in the final two minutes to lift the Lady Jaguars.

The loss spoiled a good final home game for Robinson, who finished with 16 points and nine rebounds.
