PCA starts state tournament run tonight at Benton

Based on its postseason run so far, Porters Chapel’s destiny seems clear.

The Eagles will win a state championship this week … unless they lose their first-round game by 30 points. They’ll pull off an upset of North Central tournament champion Tri-County tonight … or maybe keep it close before stumbling in the fourth quarter.

The only thing certain about PCA these days is uncertainty. It has gone a perfectly imperfect 3-3 in the postseason, winning the games it needed to in order to advance, but losing as it progressed deeper in the brackets.

Heading into tonight’s MAIS Class A state tournament opener against Tri-County, which begins at 7:45 at Benton Academy, the Eagles are looking for some shred of consistency.

“We’re the underdog, and we are capable of some wins,” PCA coach E.J. Creel said. “People underestimate us because we are so wishy-washy. That could be a good thing in our favor.”
