Mychal Ammons has done a lot in his basketball career. A FIBA junior world title at age 14, standout games at the AAU nationals, an all-star game as a junior and a basketball scholarship to South Alabama.

But he had never enjoyed a game like Tuesday night. Ammons lifted Vicksburg into the North State Class 6A Tournament, which the Gators will host, with a career high 44 points. Ammons hit 12 shots from the field, including two 3-pointers, and finished with an 18-of-19 effort from the line. He also had 11 rebounds, two blocks and a steal as the Gators slipped past hot-shooting Grenada, 83-72, in a North State 6A satellite game.

Vicksburg (24-3) will host Tupelo (28-3) Friday night at 7:30. Starkville will face Murrah at 6 p.m. The finals are Saturday at 7 p.m.
